But don't be fooled by its robust appearance; when knit in airy wool at a loose gauge and with a few eyelets thrown in, the fabric is light and drapes–never heavy.

If rustic wool isn't your style, try it in a silkier blend–the result is completely polished, going from boardroom to evening with elegant, streamlined smoothness. This project is a surprisingly quick knit for gifting or when a fresh winter accessory is needed.

Yarn requirements:

Gauge:
20 sts and 29 rows = 4 inches in stockinette (unblocked), 24 sts and 24 rows = 4 inches in eyelet cable pattern (washed and blocked)

Needles:
size 8 (5.0 mm) circular needle or size to obtain correct gauge, cable needle several sizes smaller than gauge needle
