Baby’s first shawl—a soft, magical square, worked in the round from the center out in lace patterns suggesting a field a-buzz with bees and grasses. Worked in washable fingering wool, this piece is as sturdy as it is pretty and practical to use at home or when traveling.

Suggested Yarns: 
Ginny Sport, Better Breakfast Fingering, Stone Soup Fingering, Finn Dandy 3-ply Sport, Modern Deco Sport, or any soft fingering yarn with approximately 400 yards per 4 ounces. 

Substituting yarn and/or needles will result in an overall variation in size. 

Finished Size: 
44 inches square (washed and blocked)


Yarn Requirements: 
1550 yards


Gauge: 
24 sts and 32 rows = 4 inches in stockinette on larger needles (unblocked)


Needles: 
size 5US (3.75 mm) 24- and 32- inch circular needles or size to obtain correct gauge
DPNs same size as body needle 
32-inch circular needle and a single DPN one size smaller for hem edging (optional)

Great pattern

Great pattern. Easy to follow and the charts are great. Cannot wait to finish it, but I am enjoying knitting it
