Modern Mood Socks

This sleek, top-down sock in five sizes (XS/S/M/L/XL) is dazzlngly simple to knit, yet is super-stylish paired with anything from shorts to dress trousers. PLUS, it's reversible if you like a doubled cuff! With a modern take on ribbing from top cuff to ankle, it can be worked tall or short to suit its purpose and in a variety of fiber choices.

Suggested Yarns:
Modern Deco Sport, Seasons Fingering, Better Breakfast Fingering, Stone Soup Fingering, Blues Singer Fingering, Jacob Sport, Masham Sport, Finn Dandy 2-ply or 3-ply Sport, Shetlandia Sport, or any heavy fingering/light sport yarn that knits to pattern gauge

Substituting yarn and/or needles may result in an overall variation in size, elasticity, and yardage requirement.

Finished Size: 
6(7, 8, 9, 10) inches in foot circumference to fit feet measuring up to 7(8, 9, 10, 11) inches around widest point of forefoot 

Yarn requirements:
tall sock: 300(350, 400, 450, 500) yards for average foot length
ankle sock: 200(240, 275, 325, 375) yards for average foot length 

Gauge:
2 sts and 48 rows = 4 inches in stockinette on smaller needles (knit flat, washed, and air-dried)
34 sts and 48 rows = 4 inches in rib pattern on larger needles (knit flat, washed, and air-dried)) 

Needles:
DPNS size 1US (2.25 mm) for top cuff and foot (or size to obtain correct gauge)
DPNs size 1.5 (2.5 mm) for leg (or .25 mm larger than gauge needle) 
cable needle several sizes smaller than gauge needle (optional)
Note: pattern is written for construction on DPNs, but any circular method may be used
